Akebi Feedback #57

Can you make it so the keyboard doesnt pop up when you first open the app, and also when you open the search function? (disable auto text entry mode)

I'll put it in the options again. I removed that option a while ago since I thought no one really used it.

Akebi Feedback #56

Hello, first let say I like the new interface. But it looks awful Windows 8-ish don't you think? Anyways, I appear to missing a few Kanji in the Kanji grid. Is this normal? they are all in "grade 8" and higher. for example: the box on the grid is blank, but the detail is there for the on reading of taku, and a kun reading of migaku. it has the dot radical, the jewel radical and the pig radical and no English meaning. granted, this very rarely used, but is it a problem with my tablet font? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for the kind words! No need to worry about the missing kanji... It's just your devices font. But thanks for reporting the issue!

I like the speed and idea! but I find the Kanji flashcard interface too clogged. I wish it was more clean and simple. when a Kanji is right I'd rather like to see the correct one on top of the one I drew.

Sounds like a good idea! I'll make it happen.

The handwriting system does not recognize 子 if I give it three strokes, but it appears with two strokes. The character 子 has two strokes in Chinese, yet three strokes in Kanji, I test other word as well, mostly their strokes are with Chinese.

I've had other people tell me about this, but nobody has mentioned that the reason the data is this way is because Chinese has only 2 strokes. Huh. I'll try to update this soon.

Akebi Feedback #53

Hi! I am new to Akebi and Japanese language as well. I've purchased lots of apps, but this is the best! Wish you consider including several sentences that contain the Kanji well are searching. Sorry if the app already offers this search, maybe I haven't learn how to use it properly. Hugs from Brazil. Sérgio. :-)

Sorry... I meant includding "furigana" in the sentences! Thank you!

OK, have you tried pressing the arrow next to the example sentences? Then it will split up the sentence for you and you can view the definitions of each word. Is this what you mean? Hugs from Australia ;)

Akebi Feedback #52

The Kanjis "遠, 道, 送 etc." have common part which consist of 2 strokes according to "show stroke order screen", but the drawing recognizer expects it to be drawn with 1 stroke.
Kanji grid test seems to be not random or not shuffled every time.
After some time the app hangs on restore from background.
I'm not sure how but lots of words that I added to active list not appeared in the list.

  1. Other people are complaining about that too... It seems to be that the data I use for handwriting recognition is incorrect.
  2. The Kanji grid shows you the Kanji you studied the longest time ago mixed with how well you know it. Hence the order is not random...
  3. These problems are really difficult for me to fix, because I have no sure-fire way of re-producing them... I'll give it a try though.
  4. Hmmm... Perhaps the lists were never saved. I've changed the saving method in an upcoming version so that everything is saved every time you leave an "Activity". Sorry about that.

Hey once again thanks for the amazing app! Just a thought, are you familiar with the "Pleco" Chinese dictionary app? It has a "reader" function which allows copy paste from websites etc and tapping a word in the text brings up a pop-up dictionary. Do you think this is possible with Akebi? Otherwise loving the app! Thanks!!

Hmm I downloaded Pleco and had a look: It's a pretty cool feature! I'll add it to the list of things I need to do.

Will there be pronunciation? I really can't handle long vowels well...
Thanks again.

One day I will add audio to Akebi, but for now I need to focus on other features... Sorry.
