Hey! Have you thought of adding a widget? I think it'd be cool to have a widget where you could flash through a list to study. Instead of going through the program, so it's kinda on the fly and always on screen. Just a thought. But great work so far! Love the app!

Actually, I've been thinking about doing this. Wouldn't it be great to have something like the clock on the unlock screen, but for a dictionary!

Very good app for Japanese dictionary and with some amazing explanations. Keep it up, dude. You are truly amazing. This help me so much to improve and help me to remember back the words and speak in Japanese.

Wow thanks so much! I'm glad you like it!

Sorry for the very late response.

The characters are all whacky and jumping - I don't know how to describe it better - (maybe them being flashy and whacky is due to me using an 11 inch screen tablet and not a phone)

I wish there was something I could do to help, but alas "Wacky and jumpy" is a bit ambiguous. If you get a chance, please sent me an email. Thanks for the feedback, and sorry for the late reply.

Akebi Feedback #141

Clearly one of the best learning Japanese tools O I've used (and liked the humour too, gehehehehe) *cough* Okay, now to think of it, I'd think this app could use another feature. Perhaps adding multiple-choice-questions on selected list(s) of words. Think of Kanji Senpai app. EG:

  1. User selects up to 10 new words on list called "Repeat daily".
  2. User decided that he/she wants to review on some of already learned words in the "Repeat weekly" list as well. Words with least 'XP' has higher chance of appearing.
  3. User selects these two lists and proceeds to be quizzed.
  4. The quiz pops out. Flashing the Japanese word/tile/English word (randomly or in arrange), with 3-5 multiple choices down. One is correct answer, the others are randomly picked meanings/kanji words.
  5. If correct - quiz goes on. App keeps track on correct words and lowers their rate of appearing after some time. (think of XP gain for said words.)
  6. If wrong - Shows the correct answer for the words. App keeps track on the user's performance and keeps an eye out on which words the user has problems on. That way, Akebi will more likely quiz those words until the user more or less 'gets' it.
  7. User's performance on different words are recorded and kept track of. That way, when the user goes for another session, Akebi would continue from their last progress. This records can be reset, of course. Perhaps multiple forms of modes could be introduced to the list-quiz system (tick multiple options to include diferent modes):-
  • English: Questions are in English, answers in Kanji + Hiragana or Katakana (may randomize them)
  • Kanji-meanings: Questions are in Kanji, answers are their meanings.
  • Kanji-reading: Questions are in Kanji, answers are their corresponding hiragana, katakana or romaji.
  • Hiragana/Katakana: Flashes hiragana/katakana standalones and answers are their corresponding romaji.
  • Hiragana-to-Katakana: Well hey, Flashes Hiragana and answers are in Katakana that corresponds to the character, and vice versa.

I...think I might've suggested too much >.< Been using Kanji Senpai + other references until I come across this jewel. Kanji Senpai somewhat kept track of my performance, but lacks the organization (which words to focus on, which words I've already mastered, etc), and doesn't have search system as efficient as Akebi. Plus I really dig the decompostion feature which GREATLY helps with making out ways to master them. Best in luck to the development team. Wish you guys for the best ;)

Woaaaahhhh! Thanks for the awesome feedback! I'm very sorry for the late reply, there is really no excuse but my laziness.

All of these ideas are really good, and I'll seriously consider adding them. Akebi already has XP for words actually, it's just hidden from the user at the moment.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestions and the amount of time you must have spent writing them out for me! It means so much to me, thanks!

Akebi Feedback #140

Sixth time I've made a list only to return and all 100+ words under 8 list all showing empty. Why do the lists keep resetting empty? This has happened on both my tablet and my galaxy note 3 phone.
(Received on 2014-10-01 02:43:52)

AAAAHHH! Every time this happens to someone I feel terrible! There seems to be a strange issue with saving files some times. Unfortunately now that the data is lost... It's gone. Sorry! Next time, please make use of the Backup feature until I get a chance to update Akebi.

hi, I've just downloaded your app, and I've noticed that you have indicated only 4 JLPT levels, even if they are 5 by now..... further comments later on, after having practised a little bit. thanks, Margherita

I've been aware that JLPT has 5 levels now, but the data is in the old 4 level format. I'll have a look at updating it. Thanks!

Akebi Feedback #138

Hello, I just installed your app and I must say it has greatly improved since last time I used, I especially like the aesthetics. But there is something that makes me not want to use it as main japanese english app, usually what I most do is search words in japanese I don't understand. since I search them phonetically the results only appear under kana and I have to scroll quite a bit. Is there a way to change this? Great app anyway, joaquin
(Received on 2014-09-26 15:06:32)

Hmm... I think I could fix this by allowing users to re-order the search results in the options. I've added it to my list of stuff to fix. Thanks!
