akebi it's really a useful app. can i ask You if there is a way to add new words???
Sure! To add a word, just add a list in the Lists section. Then, activate the list and add a word to it. Then it'll show up in your searches. It's a bit confusing, sorry.
how do I access the handwriting feature??
愛してる!このソフトが最高だよ!本当にありがとうございます!
どういたしまして!
Excellent app when it works but often crashes and leaves me with a black screen that I cannot escape from, or a white screen that says "definitions" but has no other content
Very sorry to hear that! I wish I could fix it, but alas I cannot see the issue so I cannot fix it! If you're interested, you could send me a screen shot and I'll take a look at it for sure. It's probably something to do with your device reporting its screen resolution incorrectly, I've had that before. That or it's just my crappy coding ;)
I'm not sure why, but sometimes when I start off by typing kana like しゃ, きゃ, きゅ, etc., the app restarts. :/ Other than that though, great job on the app's interface!
Sorry about that! Not sure why it's happening. It indicates an issue in the dictionary back-end of the Application, which I'm busily working on at the moment. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.
On the tutorial for the list, it says redacted on one of the page thingys. Is that supposed to be there?
Yes, it's actually just a joke ;) complete integration with the causing a seismic biologically assimilating with worryingly causing sector 8 breaches on evasive action.
awesome app!
Cheers!
First off, awesome app! Best I used so far. Could you please add an "Intrusive Study" feature please? Let me explain. So, I'm reading a novel and I come across a word I don't know. I go ahead and search it in Akebi and also add it to one of my word lists. But... that's that. I cannot possibly spend too much time reviewing all the words I've added to my lists while adding new ones constantly. That is where "Intrusive Study" comes in. If I enable the feature in the options, then Akebi will let me select which one of the lists I want to study while I also do my searching. Like, at certain times it will "force" a word to be studied via pop up. Then I would see it, review it and go back to using the dictionary. Get the concept? For me at least studying this way will incorporate into my flow the tedious task of spending time reviewing and learning words and vocab. Just a thought but overall very happy with this app. Oh hey, if you could also add the feature to load epwing dictionaries it would rock the pants off this great app. Keep up the good work. A donation is on its way.
Hey, that's a really cool idea! I love it! I'll be sure to add it in at some stage in the future. Just for your information, the new C++ searching back-end for Akebi is now totally written and complete. The reason I am writing it is to move the dictionary to JMDict. I have written exactly 10237 lines of C++ to this end. The new file size for all the databases combined is almost definitely going to be smaller than 30mb. I need to:
Hopefully this won't take too long. I hope to have a new version out by end of march, but there's no telling how long it will take.
I will have a look at EPWING, but really need to focus on this first.
So rest assured, Akebi is still under active development, just that that development is a bit hidden at the moment. Thanks!
If you're going to donate, please donate to Wikipedia, Blender.org (my favourite FOSS program) or EDRDG (the people who make the database Akebi uses). And remember to tell me if you do!
Hey! Just wanted to say this is by far the best Japanese dictionary I've found, period. Thanks for making this!
Thanks so so much! Your kind words are very important to me and people like you are my sole motivation to continue working on the project.
JLPT Kanji should be now classified from N5 to N1 instead of Grade 4 to Grade 1
Thanks for reporting this. I'm aware of this issue already, hope to fix it soon, thanks!
