Please give an option for me to see a history of the kanji I've looked up--search history. Those are the ones I need to keep working on. Thank you for the great study tool! -Scott
Hi Scott,
A history feature is another highly requested feature and I will look to adding it as soon as I've finished working on the current upgrade (hopefully not too much longer, its already been over a year :\ )
best dictionary tool for android
Thanks!!
I think if this aplication have a historis mode, I think its good . onegaishimasu.
Hey there! A history feature is something I intend to get around to doing. Thanks for the feedback!
it's great and free.. it's very useful for me . I'm form indonesia and now live in japan . treening (kenshuusei) . arigatou gozaimasu Akebi sama ☺
I'm really glad you find it useful! Hopefully I can keep making it better for you! Thanks for the motivation!!
All my lists and kanjis just gone after I tried to backup my data and nothing came back when loaded. Well, I know the data can never be recovered but still I just want to let you guys know that this happened to me and hope this problem will not occur again when I try to do it next time. Thanks o(--( Also, wish there would be a better way to export lists without risking them like this... (or maybe it just my luck and bug's problem? idk)
Hey there. Really sorry to have yet another victim of this stupid bug. There is another way you can export lists: If you go to your list and press the "..." button at the top, there's an import/export option. Hopefully it isn't too much trouble to use that in the mean time.
Really sorry for the very late response time: I've been super busy and I kept putting replying off because I'm stupid. Sorry :(
Hi! Great app, but since I'm writing here, you might guess that I have a suggestion request... :-) I recently found your app as I was visiting Japan and immediately recognized how useful it is for a language beginner like me. Now the most frequent usage is to enter new words into the lists (decks?) and once in a while let the app test me on those. Imagine the following situation: "What do you call these things?" (lifting a bean sprout up from my chanpon soup). "They are called MO-YA-SHI." I type the word in romaji and ... three alternatives appear, two which share the same kanji. "Homonyms? Which one is the one I want?" There is no time to conduct a search, as the dinner conversation continues, and the word is left in inserted... Suggestion: Use the same layout as you already use in the entered words list. They feature furikana, kanji and most importantly, the most used English translations. One more thing could make it perfect. If this case it turned out that ALL of the suggested options mean the same thing (unlike, say, "HASHI"), and one of the suggestions an irregular okurikana usage. Of the remaining two I still cannot choose which one is the one I should primarily work on memorizing... Now, if the data allows, on these cases it would be super to have all grouped under the most commonly used, perhaps allowing a drop down selection for others, if some user would need them. I realize that the last suggestion is bit too much, but the first one I would really love to see in this app. This is a great app and now that I (more or less) have begun to understand it's usage, I have begun to recommend it to my friends. お疲れさまです。
Hey there!
Firstly, thanks for writing so much detail! It's great that you've taken the time to write to me, and so I'll take the time to write back.
Thanks for your ideas! I think that the update I've been working on for the past 6 months will address many of these concerns. It deals with homonyms/synonyms etc. It will actually group different writings together under the same word, rather than having them separated like they are now. Hopefully it make it easier for you! Development is ongoing, but I'm very busy. I hope it won't take too much longer but it's hard to say.
Thanks for recommending Akebi to your friends! It means a lot to me!
I just got a new phone and tried to upload my saved Akebi backup from my other Samsung phone onto this one (Galaxy S6). It isn't working for some reason? Please fix this big or direct me to how to make it work?
Sure, just send me an email! It's on Akebi's Google Play store page (I don't want to post it here or I'll probably get spam).
Suddenly and for no apparent reason I lost all my lists and without backup
I'm really sorry! Unfortunately, due to a bug in what seems to be Android, sometimes the lists won't be able to be saved. Akebi writes to a file, and no errors are reported, but when it tries to read the file again, there's nothing there. I'm really sorry about it, and I hope to get time to fix it soon.
Thank you for an awesome app! My favorite :-)
Thanks!
Hey, great app! Far superior design, style and execution to other apps. This is by far my favorite, I'd even consider buying a "pro" or "upgraded" version. As a beginner in Japanese, I've though of an idea which I think would really help. Basically, you could enter text, the app would identify the different parts. Essentially it would work like the example sentences but for user entered data. This would help beginners, like me, talking to Japanese people, people surfing internet, etc. who don't know certain words and/or kanji. This would save a lot of time copying and pasting one word at a time. We could view the entire sentence and select words which we don't know. Furigana would also be amazing. Thanks so very much!
Hi there! Thanks for your idea! Actually, it's one I've had too for quite some time. The issue is really just a space thing. I think I checked and such a feature would almost double the dictionary size if I remember correctly. So when I do get around to putting it in, it'll be an add-on. Thanks for writing in and for the motivation as well!
