Happy new year! Yay! Thanks so much to all the beta testers and donations! (02/01/2021)
hey, please make a scroll bar in the kanji section or at least make an option for choosing which jlpt section I want to look for it's soo much scrolling when I always get pulled back to the main screen due to a tad confusing interface 。^‿^。 otherwise I love the idea of dictionary app where I can write and search for kanji PLUS having a flash card function and drill section in the same app ∩˙▿˙∩ I'm stoked to see how this app evolves
Hiya! Just upgrade to the beta for a better KanjiGrid!
It'd be nice if the context menu (…) in the decomposition view had a Share option. Would make it quicker for me to look up meanings in Kodansha (KKLD app, has the most concise definitions available).
Hey! Use the add to button. I'll make it more clear. Thanks!
I don't think that it's always been that way, but currently opening a search result – eg. for query 品のい – has the entry by default only cover about a sixth of display height (judged by my Nexus 7) rather than a reasonable amount, like max(50%, total_whitespace) [which in this particular case would be 5/6 on my N7].
This is an awesome app, however, I'm currently unable to add kanji to my test kanji deck, and I might add that being able to import the kanji from your flashcards into the test kanji would be unbelievably convenient. Keep up the great work
I want to change the example sentences but I'm fairly certain that isn't possible without rooting my phone at minimum. My plan is to parse the book I'm reading into sentences and then add them all automatically. As I read and come across new vocab, I would actually have super relevant examples to help me remember correct usage, etc. Particularly helpful given that most words I look up lately have no example sentences at all. I'm happy to figure out whatever format you're using on my own and send you the book parsing app and code when done if you'd expose that file to the user. I also want to change the kanji and word frequency stats to match what I'm reading but that's not so important. Thanks for the amazing app.
Hi there! I'm glad you're interested in doing this, but there's very little chance that even I would be able to do what you're trying to do if for some reason I lost all my source code. The formats Akebi uses are very dense Akebi-specific binary formats, so I can cram everything into around 22mb. Just changing one byte somewhere in the data files is likely to break everything entirely and segfault the app. But if you're up for a challenge (and are really good with ARM assembly, almost no symbols or strings and obfuscated JNI function names) don't let me stop you. I'm very sorry, but right now I can't release the source until I've really thought it through about licensing and how to protect my work.
If you want to speak about the internal format's of Akebi more privately, please shoot me an email. Also upgrade your beta version, it's really old!
For some reason all the examples translations come out as "I brought you something little" to me. can't say it's not hilarious but also kinda irritating ^^"
Fixed now! Sorry about that!
Oh noes! The translation for ALL the example sentences turned into "I brought you a little something"! Regardless of the word you entered! ...funny bug though. ;)
I'm so sorry about that. I was trying to fix another bug and I accidentally removed an "&". I fixed it!
Examples would be better if further searchable for specific uses in either languages.
Hey there!
This is a feature I'd like to add, time permitting. Thanks for the feedback.
Matt.
There seem to be alot of example sentences that are using non-existent grammar. In particular, I keep seeing こと being used incorrectly. For example, 浸透事 is being used in the card for 浸透. This same grammatical error is happening in many other cards and that makes me think that they are coming from the same source.
Very good app. Easy to learn
Thanks!
