There is no kanji recognition.

Sorry, for the moment there is only handwriting and radical recognition. OCR is a potential future enhancement.

Am I a name? I don't think so, but I do have one! It's Matt!

hello, this APP is really good and had helped me a lot, thanks for your hard work. any chance a spaced repeated system will be implemented in the future? it would make the study of vocab better, not just generating flashcards. thanks again!

Thanks for the kind words! I'd recommend that you take a look at Anki-Droid, as my app's functionality for flashcards is primitive at best. Hopefully I can integrate support for it at some stage.

Akebi Feedback #253

Hey there, I've been using Akebi for a while now, and I really like it. However, I really wish that I could copy items I look up. It can be pretty inconvenient at times and is largely why I still find myself using other dictionaries some times. If you could add this, that would be great! Thanks!

Hi, thanks for writing in! To copy a word, press the little paper plane "send to" button once you've selected a word. You can copy the word in there!

A login option would be nice, as a way to save our lists from device to device. I recently got a new phone after coming back from Japan and lost my lists of interesting words and kanji I had learned while living there.

Hey! If you like, you can always use the "Backup" and "Restore" options. Just take your old phone, press Backup, then copy the files in AkebiBackup to your new phone. Then you can use Restore there!

Akebi Feedback #251

Hi! One little tweak I'd like to see. I have a couple different vocabulary lists going and when I look up words I don't remember which list is active. It would be nice if the "save to active list" button displayed the name of the currently active list. (if we could choose a list when saving a word, even better, but I imagine that's more difficult.)

Hey there! This is a great idea, I'll add it to my list of stuff to do. In the mean time, you can use the "Send to" button (It looks like a paper plane) near the cross at the top of the words. From there, you can pick the list you'd like to put the word into.

Akebi Feedback #250

Hello! I'm loving the app. I've got one suggestion. It would be really great if there could be the option for a persistent notification that displays the most likely translation of what is currently copied to the clipboard. This would be very useful for convenience; for example when you are viewing Japanese articles or other Japanese content online and you come across an unfamiliar word or kanji and want to quickly find out its meaning without disrupting your flow. Perhaps the notification could have an expanded state with more detail of the translation or other possible translations. When clicked the app could open with the search screen already loaded. Thank you so much! :)

Holy crap, that is a really great idea. Thanks, I'll make that happen soon. Hopefully after the next version.

Your app is sooooo great! I'm in Japan right now, it's totally saving my life and it makes learning words and their kanji so much fun. When I'm back I will make a donation, totally worth it. Nevertheless, I think that a kanji recognition feature from the camera (for instant translation from a sign or restaurant menu for example) would make it even better!

Hey there! Thanks for the positive feedback, it means a lot to me! If you'd like to donate, please donate to either Wikipedia, Blender.org (my favourite FOSS program) or EDRDG (the people who make the database Akebi uses). Please let me know if you do, so I can add you to the list of contributors. Thanks!!
