Akebi Feedback #317

Thank you for your amazing app. Just little problem that I've got when using Akebi. I have difficulty in search for word written in Katakana. For example: saabisu for service. Ho one pe that you can do something with this. Anw, your app is really useful indeed :)

Hi there! Try using UPPERCASE to type Katakana words. Hope that helps! Thanks for the kind words!

Akebi Feedback #316

Hey there! Love this app. When is the conjugation feature scheduled to come out? Thanks :)
(Received on 2015-11-14 05:05:04)

Hi there! Yes, the conjugation feature has been "Coming soon" for far too long hasn't it! It probably won't be coming in the next update, but hopefully I'll be able to make it happen for the one after that (which should definitely not take as long as this one to create).

Being tested for GO of NIHONGO, I inverted the right part (five and mouth) but it was still counted as correct. This may be misleading.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, this is just the way the system works at the moment. I guess Akebi thinks that what you drew is close enough to the answer. In the future, I hope to show an overlay of what you drew, versus what is correct.

Akebi Feedback #314

hey there! i've been using akebi for at least a year by now, it's still brilliant and i've hooked about half my japanese class on it (and the other half wishes they had android!) but i've never been able to find a way to access all words tagged a certain way (for example, accessing the particular tag to find all words tagged 'colloquial'), which would be super helpful if it's possible and i've simply been missing it this whole time! thank you either way!!

Cool idea! Thanks for telling your classmates too, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can make this happen soon. In the mean time though, I have to release the language update and its coming very close to completion. Cheers!

Akebi Feedback #313

Can I move my akebi apps to external sd card? Unfortunately I have limited sd card and prefer apps that can be transferred to sd card, anyway it's great app thanks so much ^^
(Received on 2015-11-11 06:59:52)

Hi there! I think I had someone else asking about this recently. However, I'm not sure how Android supports apps on an SD card. Besides, Akebi itself only takes up about 1mb + the data files (20mb which are stored on the sd card). It may be something to look at in the future, but for now I need to focus on other things.

Could we get multiple selection instead of one by one? I'm an intermediate and know most of the basic kanji so I'm using Akebi for the more unfamiliar ones but also to revise the older ones so I browse through those ones like 50 at a time. it's kinda boring having to select 50 if you understand. But I LOVE Akebi either way so thank you for this free app. <3

If I understand correctly, you'd like to be able to pick just a few kanjis in the kanji grid to be tested on. It's a good idea, and I'm not sure why I haven't heard this already! I'll make a note of it and be sure to make it happen sometime.

Akebi Feedback #311

There was a sudden (unexplainable) crash, and all my lists disappeared. After creating new ones I decided to backup them into the SD storage, but when I wanted to load the backup files not a single list reappeared. What can I do now? Please, help!
(Received on 2015-11-07 14:41:13)

Would you be able to take a look inside the "AkebiBackup" folder on your SD card? If there are files there that aren't empty, we can probably save the data. Shoot me an email (it's on the store page). Otherwise I'm really really sorry, but there's not much anybody can do.

i think it will be better if the example sentence have romaji. so we can know how to read some kanji if it used on sentence.

Furigana should be available in the next update. I'll take a look at adding romaji, but for now that should be pretty useful. Thanks for writing in!

This could easily turn out to be the best dictionary app available yet! Great work on functionality and design. I'm already eagerly waiting for the promised multiple languages feature, which would basically render all the other dictionary apps I'm currently using obsolete. A few ideas for future updates: How about a community function to share word lists with other users over the internet? The apple exclusive app "midori" for example has preinstalled lists, which make searching for topic related expressions and phrases really comfotable. By letting users share and download their own personal lists you could even expand such a list feature on very specific topics. You get what I mean? :) Also great would be a possibility to deactivate the handwriting pad in the search menu. I am usually using the google IME for making hand written inputs and it tends to get in the way of the app's own feature. It's not dramatic or anything but it would be nice to have the choice. Enough talk, now keep up the amazing work!
(Received on 2015-11-06 04:24:55)

An option to turn off the Handwriting input is a great idea! Definitely something I can make happen. And believe it or not, users used to be able to share their lists online. You could even vote and stuff. It was neat, but I had to get rid of it because nobody used it and it was becoming a hassle to maintain. Something to look at in the future though. Thanks!

Could we get some sort of indicator for words which have a definition tagged as "high usage"? E.g. when I look up 眠る, 「ねぶる」shows up first even though it's an out of use reading and 「ねむる」is second, the same colour as the first but much higher usage. I figured it could be a quick and convenient way to tell which was the most likely reading if there was some sort of marker or different colour for readings which have at least one "high usage" tagged definition. Even better if we could do this with custom colours for any given tag but I understand if that isn't practical.
(Received on 2015-11-04 10:24:52)

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I like the idea that you could make words with specific tags come up more frequently. Perhaps I could add an option into the options menu that allows you to choose between default word ordering (by number of examples) to tag based ordering (by high usage, etc.). Worth a look, thanks for the idea!
