Akebi Feedback #367

I love the app. The features, simple design, example words, how everything can be added to a list, and lack of ads. Thank you for writing the app I always wished for! I am mostly using the kanji grid right now and have experienced some issues with the handwriting. For some characters, it will say that I used the wrong number of strokes (子, 遠) and only accept it when combining strokes, despite what's shown in the stroke order tool. Also, some characters don't seem to be recognized at all no matter how I write it, like 算, which appears in the grade 2 jouyou list. I don't know if you have wrote the handwriting software or how much control you have over it, but improvements would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! I've fixed this issue (regarding the incorrect strokes of 子) in the beta. Feel free to check it out! As for the other one, best to give the beta a try too. It's likely also been fixed (I can get it easily). Thanks!

This is the most comprehensive Japanese dictionary I've seen for Android. I'm currently running the beta version of the app, and it actually works fine even though it's not exactly supposed to be stable. The feature I'd like to see most is pronunciation. By that I don't mean using something like TTS because that's not exactly reliable. For example it looks like EDICT has pronunciation info. Now I know you just switched from EDICT to something else, but even if it's online it'd be really helpful for me if there was an option to hear the pronunciation, since in Japanese an incorrect intonation could completely change the meaning. Thanks again for making this useful application. It made my life a whole lot easier.

Audio based pronunciation is on the list, but fairly low down. There's many other things I must take care of first. But regardless, thank you so much for testing out the beta for me!

The keyboard pops up too often - every time a new screen is opened the first text field gets focused.

Yep, sorry about that. Many people have requested I deal with that, and it's something that will be fixed in the beta shortly.

Hi there, I love this app its brilliant, a feature I'd really love to be included though would be the ability to reorder items in a list. Thanks keep up the great work ありがとう!

Thanks! I'll take a look at adding that in, but I'm fairly sure others have requested it before.

I pushed backup button but nothing happened. I assumed it was already backed up on sd card. But I accidentally pushed Load button and all of my list, kanji grid, all of them are gone. There was no "are you sure " alert when my fingers touch load button. and why did all of my data gone? I touched backup button few weeks ago, then i touched it again today. I assumed the backup data will be overwriten. Please fix it. and what should i do to get my data back? there were many many list and kanji grid back then. how sad and frustrating

Hi there. Could you please check the directory /AkebiBackup/ on your SD Card? If there are files in there, and they are greater than 24 bytes in size, then your data is safe and I can get it back for you. Otherwise, please accept my deepest apologies. There are some strange issues going on with some devices that I'm working on fixing. To prevent this from happening again, please try out the beta version. I've made many improvements to the way user data is handled. I'm really sorry if all your data is gone!

Hey, if got a question to the kanji grid as there is no tutorial for its function. When I want to test myself, an for that press the "test" button, every kanji is reset to 1% recognition regardless of it previous value. I don't want to review every kanji every time so is there a better way to study them? because otherwise the app shows only kanji with the lowest recognition at the time.

Hi there! This is probably caused by the degradation of knowledge over time. Just open the options menu and see if you can set the amount of knowledge that you lose over time to zero. Let me know if that works, thanks!

Akebi Feedback #360

I just tried Akebi and fell in love. It is much better than any previous dictionary on Android I have ever used. Some missing things are kanji compound grouping, like categories for computer, medical terms, govermental terms and structures etc. Other than that, try to make an option to change the theme because I like itbetter with daker background colours.
(Received on 2015-12-23 01:23:16)
I'm so glad you like it! A darker theme has been requested a few times before, but I really need to finish up a couple of more pressing features right now. I'm not sure what you mean by grouping kanji by usage. It seems like they would all be in lots of different groups. Do you have an example you'd like me to look at? Thanks, Matt.

I'm really glad I tried out this dictionary! It has all those features I've always wanted from other Japanese-English dictionaries be it an app-based dictionary or an online dictionary. I love it! And the cute layout is a plus. Can't wait to see how this app would improve❣
