I use an app called simeji for entering Japanese characters. It is essentially just a keyboard that allows you to switch which language youre typing in easily and it allows japanese input. For some reason, it doesn't work very well with this app, but I'm not sure why. Whenever I have Akebi open, my keyboard is always up, which makes looking at search results a little annoying. I can hit the back arrow on my phone to make the keyboard go away, but again, it is a bit frustrating to constantly be doing this. (The keyboard pops up again any time I touch the screen). This is a very tiny frustration, but it would be awesome if you could fix it or let me know how to improve it. :) Thank you!! So far, I love the way Akebi works. It is super seamless and very easy to navigate. Great job.

Thanks! Not sure why this is occurring. I'll take a closer look. I know that a few people have had trouble with the keyboard popping up at annoying times, so that's something I have to look at.

The best app ever!! It was so hard to study alone until I found this tremendously helpful app! I love it as it gives numerous advantages!! Kanji grids and lists help me so much! If possible, add some kanji tests as well. Anyway this is my favorite app!!

Application crashed, the message appeared that there was a problem with the opttion file (EOF) and then my data dissapeared. Loading the backup did nothing. It seems as if it was erased too.

I'm so sorry. I've fixed issues like this in the beta version. Just try that out and let me know how it goes. Unfortunately, your data is gone. Again, I'm really sorry, I hate hearing when this happens :(

Love this app!! when JED stopped updating, I was sad until I found Akebi! seriously, really wonderful, creative and effective UI, and I love the dev's humor haha! I would really like to see some sort of tag system-- or being able to add words to more than one list/a list other than the ONE active list. E.g. I can easily add さっぱり to my "Adverbs" list, even though my "Medical Terminology" list is the current Active List.

Hi there! You can do this by pressing the "Share" button next to the cross on the word. I know its a bit "round-about" but it works for now. Thanks!

Trying this app for the first time, very nice and fun tutorial! BUT. After exploring the kanji grids some things happened: 1. JLPT 5 is missing? 2. Grade 7 is missing? 3. Tons of kanji from grade > 8 don't show up, it's just a blank box... Will keep exploring the app and letting you know of anything weird I encounter!

Thanks for that. I've not had a chance to add JLPT 5 yet, sorry. If some kanji are missing, its likely because your device's font is missing certain characters.

the handwriting recognition is wonky at times. trying to get it to see 空 is really hard for some reason. I am loving being able to practice on the go.

寒 has wrong number of strokes in handwriting recognition. namely, it can only be recognized if you omit the last stroke.

I think there is something wrong. I keep seeing random black blocks that block out certain characters and words, so I can't see them. What should I do?

Hey there! That's probably your device's font doing that. Is your device on the latest version? I'm afraid there's not a whole lot I can do other than bundle a font with Akebi.

Hi. This is my 4th or so message sent via the app, did it work for all of them? I downloaded the beta of the new version today and I miss bigger font very much. It's much harder to read examples on a small screen in this version, so I'd like options to adjust that. Today I've experienced a bunch of major bugs in the kanji grid mode (I suspect it's because I changed XP values in the settings, but I don't know for sure) and I lost all of my progress multiple times. I don't mind much, Kanji Grid is my favorite part of Akebi ^^ Is there any way I can help by adding more translations into Russian? Not that I should be trusted, so how about making it freely available for anyone to add translations into any of the languages available here other than English, and those translations would then stay in a limbo until a few users see them and approve of them? Just figured it isn't a good idea since it means implementing on-line functions... Anyway, could there be a way to personally add notes to words and kanjis? That would be very useful. Best, Anton

Hey there! Thanks for trying out the beta! I've had a few people ask about the example sentences, I'll fix it for sure. I'll be sure to check out the Kanji grid more to make sure there aren't any obvious bugs around. If you'd like to add notes to words, you can do that by pressing "Customize" on the word once it is in a list. Not sure if I'll be able to add online features for this sort of thing though.

Wait, is it because I started a kanji test with internet on that my progress went kaput? As soon as I started Grade 9 kanji test, all Akebi kanji knowledge got nullified. What's going on, where did the stability go all of a sudden?? I need to know that backup was successful or not right after I use that function. I need to know what causes all those data crashes for me today...

Hi there. Really sorry to hear about this... Could you please try upgrading to the beta version for me? To check if the backup worked, just check /AkebiBackup/ on your SD card.
