Akebi Feedback #5

In the example sentences for ???, there is one involving a car dealer. The Katakana for that word is split wrong.

Thanks for the fix (although I think I screwed up the feedback feature when sending kanji lol...). Most of these should be fixed in the next version as apparently the Tatoeba project has the example sentences already split up for you. I'll use them instead of mah awesum automagic Japanese sentence splitting thingy asap.

Akebi Feedback #4

Greetings and konnichi wa Craxic! I just wanted to thank you for the best Japanese app I've had the pleasure of using! Thanks for all the hard work and time you've obviously put into this app. You are truly appreciated! I'm giving you 5 stars on Play and keeping the "data gathering" function on. Arigatou! (Still gotta install a Japanese IME)

(Received on 2013-06-27 11:31:40)

Thanks so much for the kind words! These type of messages are very rare but they motivate me to keep improving Akebi, so thank you! The data gathering feature is NOTHING to be worried about. The only information I receive at this time is:

  • IP Address - I use this to check where people are from. Not so much now, since there are so many new downloaders every day, but when it was first released I was really interested.
  • Version - Just the version of Akebi to know how up-to-date people are
  • Most recent report - The last time Akebi reported to me: to see if people are using it regularly or they just forget it after they use it the first time.

It also logs a few numbers, so I can get an idea of how much each feature is used:

  • Number of Searches
  • Number of Handwriting Uses
  • Number of Partial Mask
  • Number of Radical Selections
  • Number of Flashcard Tests run
  • Number of Kanji Tests
  • Number of IME Uses

I would make all this information public (except for IP addresses), but then people might just spam things to inflate numbers for fun, and I'd like it to be accurate-ish Anyway, thanks again!

Akebi Feedback #3

This could be the best dictionary out there but the 3D Kanji view kills that possibility. Might look great on tablets but on my cell it just hurts my eyes... :(

Great job anyway, and thanks. :)

Firstly, thanks for the criticism! It helps! I'm right in the middle of doing a massive update for Akebi, and a 2D kanji grid was going to happen eventually. I'll make sure to get around to it, but it will take some time given the amount of things more pressing than that (Updated Holo UI with action bar, hopefully some better handwriting recognition, many bug fixes) The truth is, I understand the whole 3D thing is gimmicky, but I did it to learn what hoops you have to jump through to get 3D stuff working on Android. It took ages to do, but yeah, I'll kill it. Or leave it as an option. One of those :P. But thanks for the feedback!

Akebi Feedback #2

Why don't you allow dictionary searches to be added to lists?
(Received on 2013-01-26 11:12:20)

I do! When you select a word, there's a toggle button that reads "The selected word is not in the active list". When you press it, the word is added to the active list and the text becomes "The selected word is in the active list". You need to activate a list though: Akebi needs to know where you want the words to go! You can even add words that Akebi doesn't know about straight from the search menu too: When no word is selected, you can add the currently entered text by pressing the same button. If the entered text could not be found, it will read "This word is not in the active list", pressing it will add the word and change the text to "This word is in the active list".

Vai no apps e pesquisa very easy Japanese keyboard with kanji ;D.
(Received on 2012-12-31 12:11:26)

Google translate chokes on this sentence, but a little bit of searching thorugh Google and wiktionary reveals the basic meaning of this sentence

Go to apps and search "very easy Japanse keyboard with kanji ;D"

(I study Japanese, not spanish so I'm sorry if I misinterpreted). Anyway, doing a quick search yielded Akebi amongst the top results. Which is interesting because Akebi didn't contain a keyboard then except for the inbuilt one. But just for you I've added my best attempt at a keyboard. Please tell me if it doesn't fit your needs, because chances are it will not fit others either.

Thanks!
