Akebi Feedback #346

Hello, I can see from the tutorials in the app and you website that you put a lot of time and effort into this app. However, one huge problem is that it drains the battery very quickly. It's to the degree that I hesitate using this app and always end up looking up the word in a different Japanese dictionary app.

Wow. That's awful! It's the second time anybody has complained about this to me. I will look into it, thank you.

Akebi Feedback #345

Hello, nice app. In the handwriting feature, drawing 鹿 with the correct stroke order does not appear as a selectable kanji.

Hi there! This issue has been fixed in the beta version (I tried it, it seems to work with the new handwriting database). Check it out if you like! Thanks.

Akebi Feedback #344

Hi Matt, thanks for the fantastic updates lately! The Beta works great so far, especially since you took care of the bug that didn't allow searching in multiple languages. Thank you so much for all the devotion you invest in this app. For me it has become a daily life companion I don't wanna miss anymore. Just a little bug report: When searching directly from the prompt in the main menu, the app initially doesn't come up with any results at all. Only after altering the contents of the search bar once (for example by entering a random character and deleting it immediately) the search results will eventually show up normally.

Hi! I'm really glad to hear that you like Akebi so much! Motivation to keep working is extremely important to me, so thanks for that! I have experienced the problem you're talking about occasionally. I will need to further investigate it. I believe it has to do with the asynchronous loading feature (so you can type what you want to search for while Akebi is loading its stuff in the background). Perhaps if you search too quickly, then it will break. I can't get it to fail consistently yet, so its impossible for me to debug it. Next thing to do is force the loading time to take like 10 seconds, that way I might be able to break it. We'll see.

Akebi Feedback #343

Maybe Akebi needs some grammmar exercises!

Thanks for the idea! I'll put it into consideration. For now though, I've got a few bugs and pressing features I must take care of first.

need to be able to remove duplicate words within the currently active list.

Hi there! Thanks for the idea. Since it was so simple, I've implemented it in the beta version. Be sure to try it out!

Akebi Feedback #341

Hi Akebi! I want to say how great this app is and am glad that I downloaded it. Some questions however, is there a way to stop the keyboard from popping up when you're not typing and is there a quicker to browse the kanji list? i.e. tabs for each level of JLPT instead of having to scroll all the way to get to the level you want? Really appreciate your effort into making this app!

Hi there! Thanks for the great feedback! At the moment, there is no way to prevent the keyboard from popping up, nor is there any way to turn the kanji grid into tabs. Sorry about that, I'll add it to the list of things to do and get on it soon! Thanks!

Hi there!

If Akebi seems like it's stuck, please try upgrading to the Beta I just released an hour or so ago. Let me know how that goes.

Thanks!

Akebi Feedback #338

Hi Akebi team! I'm really enjoying the app and I've found it to been more useful than any other method to help me learn kanji. Especially being able to see the decomposition of a kanji helps me understand its parts and add radicals to my flash card list. I would like to suggest the inclusion of test analytics in future versions of the app. I previously used the app Anki which can show you charts of how often you practice each deck and how many answers you get correct each time. It seems like a small thing but it's very motivating to track your progress in this way, and watch yourself level up. Thanks! Graham
(Received on 2015-12-01 22:03:20)

Hi there Graham. I've had a huge number of people ask about Anki integration, so that will probably be where I'm headed next. Akebi's flashcard feature is pretty bare-bones, and Anki is far superior. I might take a look at this in the future, but for now, I think just integrating Akebi with Anki will solve your problem. Cheers!
