Akebi Feedback #487

Hi! Akebi rocks. Here are some things I'd like to see in future updates: -Japanese interface -Heisig's keywords in the kanji tests or/and ways to edit the existing flashcards (is that how you call fhem?) in the Kanji Grid mode -A button that lets me access the clipboard should appear after a long press on the search bar, because it's very useful. Thank you!

Hi!
  • A Japanese interface would cost me quite a lot of time and money to translate and create. I don't think I could ever make this happen to any decent degree without significant external help
  • What do you mean by Heisig's keywords?
  • It's very strange that the clipboard menu doesn't come up for you. I don't know what could be causing that. Perhaps I can add a "paste" button. For now, perhaps try pasting into the search bar on the main menu. That should work.

Could we possibly get audio to pronounce the words/phrases? I feel like this would ensure we could get the proper pronunciation without a foreign accent

Audio has been requested by quite a few people now. I guess its something I should look into for the future. But right now, I just need to get the current version out there. Thanks!

I'd like a feature that allows us to draw a character to search for it please~ It'd be really he[pful when we don't know what a kanji means or how it is read! I absolutely love the app by the way! One the best I've seen and for free too! Simply amazing!!

Hey there! This already exists! Try out the tutorial, it should highlight the handwriting input. Thanks!

flashcards an option would be nice to see how often I got a word right or wrong like red yellow green background similar to the kanji option

Yeah, that's a good idea. I've thought about something like this before. Thanks!

Have you incorporated proper names? E.g., I was able to find most of my name (Itano, Masataka, poetically interpreted as 'true nature) kanji (板野政たか) & after some work from knowing its meaning, was able to find the correct kanji for 'たか' (added to my new "私" list, but being a new user, not yet able to pull it from there to here, as a search on 'たか' doesn't reveal the correct kanji). However, I couldn't discern my son's (Masakazu, poetically, 'true peace') kanji for 'かず' (could be 和, but since my mom died, I can't recall the correct kanji from memory & 和 doesn't have a かず pronounciation) . Anyway, hope the above makes sense & I look forward to using what appears to be a great app that you have developed!

Hey there! Sorry about this. Incorporating proper names is something to consider in the future. For now they aren't in Akebi. This might be of use. As for searching for the kanji by reading, I've not yet done that. Again, its another feature for the future perhaps. Thanks!

You know that function you made where you can decompose an example sentence? Why don't we use it to also decompose copy-pasted sentences found on the web or written by hand? That'd be cool!

This is called "morphological analysis". It's quite a challenge, and it requires quite a bit of memory to do. So if I do this, it will probably end up like a "downloadable add-on pack" or something. Thanks!

It would be amazing if the kanji grid quizzes randomised the kanji -- when attempting large sets (E.g. jlpt), I find myself subconsciously memorising the "route" which detracts my memory of the character itself.

Yeah, my memorization algorithm is pretty crap huh ;) I think I need to go research how Anki does it and try something like that. Thanks!

Is there an email I can send a screenshot to, I think the menu I captured is screwed up by mistake.
